Ok, for the record I'm writing this review while T'ed off because I've just had a bit of a shock to the system.

Yep, it was the sudden and unexpected "The End" that I ran up against. The story doesn't frickin' end. Seriously, what good does half a story do me?

Why do authors keep doing this? It pisses me off every single time. So, looking past the lack of ending I can do this, really , I thought that the story was pretty good.

It was predominantly a love story, since the whole 'gotta get Syrus t Ok, for the record I'm writing this review while T'ed off because I've just had a bit of a shock to the system.

It was predominantly a love story, since the whole 'gotta get Syrus through the Wolf Forest' just seemed to be an excuse for the two of them to be thrown together.

Very little actually happened in regard to the supposed dangers and many of the solutions felt miraculous since we were given so little of Forest's history ahead of time.

She knows her way around the living maze of a forrest because she grew up near there. Oh, ok, didn't know that. She is mysteriously protected because she befriended a ghost at some earlier time.

Oh, that's nice for them. Can bluff her way out of Philippe's clutches because she's traded with him in the past.

I like how fragile Syrus could seem at one moment and then badass the next. I like how strong Forest was supposed to be, even if she did little more than cry and fall apart in actuality.

To recap, I was pleased with the general story. There is obviously a lot more going on, with political intrigue on the horizon and the whole Leith situation yet to be resolved.

But I had a hard time settling into the story for a few reasons. The rather abrupt switch from modern Austen to medieval Regia threw me for a loop.

I then kept spinning since the language was undisputedly modern and there were a lot of modern earth wares popping up as smuggled items.

See here, we have to eat out Lucky Charms by torchlight and wear a sword with our Levis. The history between Forest and Leith is just barely sketched out but immensely important.

I needed to know more about it. And finally I just basically needed to get to know Forest more.

It's not that her character is shallow or anything, but we're told that there is a lot more to her than we see and it would have been nice to get if those detailed.

Then of course, on the other end of the book, after finally settling into the story it just up and ends on you. Then, I had to see how it ended.

I read every free chance I had until I reached the end. I found the beginning kind of slow. It is difficult for me to explain why I found the beginning hard to get through.

The points of view shifted between Forest, Syrus, the king, Kitch, Phillippe, and a few tohers. I wanted the transitions to be a bit smoother and clearer.

I caught on but it was rough sometimes. The two main characters were very well written. Forest is a halfling who is looked down upon but who is also an excellent fighter.

She is hard and tough yet broken and sad. She has amazing strength She did what she had to do. Forest is a complex character that was developed wonderfully.

Syrus, the vampire prince, was arrogant but humbled. The fact that he was blinded helped him become less arrogant. Syrus, too, was a complex character but endearing.

I just thoroughly enjoying their story. This is the point where I really got into the book and wanted to see how it ended. I was invested in Forest and Syrus.

Speaking of the ending What a cliffhanger!!!! I will definitely be reading the next book in this series.

Hmm, this book is hard to review. Warning- Insta-love, but that's because it's one of those you look in each others eyes and know you're soul mates kind- of thing.

Welcome to the main conundrum of the story! This was not a bad read! It had some fantasy elements and some paranormal themes that wasn't bad.

Bonus is, it's a clean read Let's talk about our meeting with our Prince Syrus, who is I know how surprising! The YA market has sold that dark and brooding type so much that when i read his character in which he was the patient, loving and a jovial, if not, a laid-back Prince.

For a huge fan of fantasy fiction, I was slightly apprehensive to Tenaya Jayne's approach to the genre. I love being surprised!!

I used to dress up and play pretend for hours with the pretty ornaments, kind of like the way I hid inside the pages of 'Forbidden Forest', letting its fantasy and characters envelop me.

Tenaya Jayne has created a world s For a huge fan of fantasy fiction, I was slightly apprehensive to Tenaya Jayne's approach to the genre.

Amidst all of this, it appears that war is about to break out in Regia, the home of all paranormal 'creatures' and the werewolves, vampires, elves, ogres and witches are all ready to fight against and among each other.

However, Forest and Syrus find themselves only concerned with each other. Forest does not want to spend time with a vampire, particularly one she is having to fight her attraction to, and Syrus feels frustrated because he cannot see her face and does not know why she feels such an animosity towards him.

The banter created by Tenaya Jayne is humorous and also filled with sexual tension and this atmosphere only intensifies throughout the book, but any reader expecting gratuitous sex scenes will be disappointed!

I want to rant on about what wonderful characters Forest and Syrus are - they kick-ass, together and alone! And the plot?

I loved the threads and intricacies and the twists- I didn't want the end to come and the sequel isn't ready! Jul 25, Amaya Sullivan rated it liked it.

I found it free on iBooks first of all. I read it on my iPhone during my breaks at work, but yesterday I couldn't put it down. I just had to know what would happen to Syrus and Forest.

It begins slow of course, and in Chapter 2 is where I notice something very distracting. I'm not sure if it's the version I got from iBooks, but there were two variations of Kendel's name.

It starts out as "Kindel" but switches immediately to "Kendel" After the battle of the "Kendel vs. Kindel", which wen Alright. Kindel", which went on throughout the second chapter, Kendel won hands down.

Never saw Kindel again. There were a lot of pop culture references along the way. Some I got and some I didn't.

Angry Birds was the first. Should there be such a reference? These references were more distracting from mood and flow of the story too much.

The next would be a "Flash" reference. Please no! I was hoping, praying, wishing, and crossing my finger there would be no Twilight references.

My heart sunk and I almost fell on the floor when I read the line. I cried inside. I screamed. I kicked my feet against the couch.

After my temper tantrum, I continue reading. I still felt violated and betrayed! Okay, done with all the negative pokes and prods.

Positives and excitement! The story line is captivating! You cannot help, but keep reading! It draws you in closer and closer. I couldn't place my phone down when I got home.

I wanted to keep reading. I was like, "I'm finishing this tonight. There is no way I'd be able to sleep. I'm absolutely scared, frighten, anxious, curious, and dying to find out what happens next!

I'm just scared something will happen that I don't want to happen. The characters are amazing! Must read! Nov 15, L.

Levand rated it liked it. This book is pretty predictable. The main relationship certainly was. I was a little disappointed that the political aspects took a back seat to the romance; it seems as if the author was trying to create an epic fantasy, but got caught up in the romance bits.

I thought that Syrus was a little too juvenile, especially for a vampire who is supposed to be of high rank.

A love for gummy bears, while unique, doesn't help me find him a particularly great character. Forest I liked more. She had real s This book is pretty predictable.

She had real spirit, although I think it was overdone a little in places. The relationship between the two also seems a lot like it was between two teenagers; the constant fighting and mood-swings seemed to go a little too far.

They are both highly emotional and sensitive characters. The writing itself was quite good, and the way the book was assembled made it interesting, despite the predictability.

Again, my biggest issue was the teeny-tiny part played by the political intrigue. Perhaps the author is waiting to bring that into the next book, but it did seem as if this story was written only for the romance, and everything else took the back seat.

I think that the massive forces moving in the background could have used a lot more space, and made a more well-rounded novel.

What I really liked was the back story for Forest, and the way her reactions are colored by it. That I enjoyed.

I also liked how little there was in the way of sexual content. What there was wasn't particularly graphic or descriptive. I probably wouldn't spend money on the next book; I'm not a big romance book reader, and it seems like that's the way the author is going.

The whole story looks like it's going to be centered on the relationship between Syrus and Forest. But I think that for people who enjoy that kind of novel, this would be an enjoyable one for them.

And we have another winner! Another book that basically made me useless to the world and emotionally traumatized my little readerly heart.

Highest marks to the author. No offense to traditional, some of my favorites are traditional. Anyway, this book was action packed, romanc And we have another winner!

Anyway, this book was action packed, romance packed, suspense packed, just over all packed. One thing that did bother me was the omniscient perspective.

There were parts where perspective was swapped through the course of a scene and I felt like it should have been more consistent or maybe broken up to make it clear who was talking.

The characters: Syrus and Forest are simultaneously adorable, hot, and hilarious together. There is a laundry list of characters who need to have an unfortunate meeting with Buffy or perhaps the Winchester boys in a back alley—Leith, Philippe, Christiana, Zephyre, it goes on—so there will be plenty of baddies to get their just desserts come the next books.

And the book after that. And the prequel novella. Really, I just want them all. Oct 18, Bex 'n' Books rated it it was amazing.

It's official, I have found a new paranormal series filled with vamps, shape-shifters and fey that I love! There was very little in this book that prevented me from enjoying virtually every element of Forbidden Forest.

The pace, the characters, the plot development and the writing style was all crafted so very well by Tenaya Jayne, that I was swept away with the world she created.

Electronic gigs. Pop gigs. Read it! It was really pulling me in. As we were getting to know the characters I found I liked them and was interested to learn more.

I could tell this was going to be a romance but I believed there would be a solid fantasy storyline along with it. After a while, I became a little disappointed.

There was too much focus on the couple and not enough on the overarching plot. The couple had a journey to May 3 Stars - I liked it Audiobook When I first started this book, I was feeling pleasantly surprised.

The couple had a journey to take together and most of that time was them pushing back and forth on their feelings for each other.

During this journey they did get to know each other but they were also keeping secrets as well. I was really annoyed by the h because she just wouldn't share what happened to her with the H even though he was someone who could possibly know how to help her.

They'd kiss and she'd push him away. They'd talk some more, get mad at each other, kiss again, she'd push away again. And so it went. At the beginning of the story I thought these two might encounter some major complications along the way, but that never really happened.

There were a couple of situations but they resolved quickly and fairly easily. And then at last, toward the end, these two finally start getting their relationship figured out and then bam!

Cliffy ending. Overall, I mostly liked this but it was written in a very simplistic way. Not a lot of depth and development to the story or the characters or the relationship.

There were things I really liked and things that annoyed me. As of right now, I don't think I'm going to continue the series because I don't feel that invested.

But, I never say never. The female MC was raped and forcibly marked in a way that keeps her tied to her attacker.

She desperately wants freed of him but hasn't been able to figure out how to do it yet. The rape happens before we enter this world but we later find out about it with slight details.
